The current tour at the Chollar Mine is a guided tour that lasts a half an hour. Visitors walk with the guide approximately 400 horizontal feet into the main haulage tunnel. The guide explains the difficult conditions for men underground, how the ore body was formed, and the technological advances necessary to mine. The tour group gathers in a stope (a place where a pocket of ore was mined out). Once in the stope visitors have a chance to view square set timbering, silver ore, rock drills, as well as a winze bucket operation. The tour business is currently seasonal and is open for seven months of the year.
The tourists who visit the mine find it intriguing and informative. The tour gives folks the opportunity to experience, in a subtle way, what it was like to be an underground miner
